Every Good Gift is a business designed as a ministry to the women we employ. We employ and serve young women living in the Philadelphia area. Some of the women live in housing ministries for young mothers. Our employees have had very difficult lives. Often they have experienced poverty, instability, and trauma in their childhood years, and have little or no support system. For some of the women, this is their first pregnancy, while others have older children. Like all good mothers, they want to provide healthy, stable childhoods for their children. The moms can stay at the homes for up to eighteen months, allowing them to get a GED or finish school, secure a job, and obtain long-term housing. Through the support of the homes and their programs, and by working and being mentored by the Every Good Gift volunteers, the women develop job, life, and relationship skills. This enables the moms to find employment, establish or strengthen a relationship with the Lord, be less dependent on government assistance, and thrive as a family. When all positions are not filled by women currently living at the residences, we invite women who previously lived there and women being served by area pregnancy care centers to work with Every Good Gift.
Growing up, I was raised in the church, adopted into a beautiful Christian family and guided by 2 amazing Christian parents. I ended up falling away from the church as a teenager and just couldn’t seem to understand why my life was going the way it was. I suffered from depression, and bullheadedness, and ended up hanging in the wrong crowd. I made some very bad decisions in my life, but good things have come from it. I now have 3 beautiful children given to me directly from the hands of God. Today I can say that I’m making better decisions than I have ever done before. Thankfully I’ve had a lot of help and support from Every Good Gift.
Every Good Gift opened its arms to me, and I am very proud to say that I am now a permanent employee there. Each day we come in with our children and hear some version of the Word, whether through music, through our Bible Studies, through words of wisdom spoken by the great volunteers, or through Jill Page, the author of this ministry. I have never felt so comfortable and so accepted all in one place. Arts and crafts never were a big thing to me, but Jill brought out the artistic side of me slowly but surely.
Every day we are put to the test creatively to make beauty out of simple paper products, and it never ceases to amaze me what becomes of the end result. Jill is one of the most loving, passionate, brave, and Christ-like women I’ve ever had as a manager, and she is always encouraging and wanting to help look out for all the women that work for Every Good Gift. Just like Christ, she brings you in, cleans you up, and gets you set on a path that has you geared for success for you and your family.
I will be forever grateful for the opportunity that Every Good Gift has given me.
