Questions About Our Ministry
What is Every Good Gift?
It is a business that is a ministry to the women it employs. The mission of Every Good Gift is to share the love of Christ with vulnerable women in a safe environment that nurtures healthy job, life, and relationship skills while creating quality products for customers.
Who are the employees?
The employees are young mothers in the Philadelphia area who are living at a maternity residence, have previously lived there, or are being served by a pregnancy resource center. They are pregnant or have a young child.
Why create a business?
There are many young women who have had a very difficult start in life. They may have grown up in poverty, in foster care, with parents abusing substances or incarcerated, in low-performing schools, and in communities where violence was common. They are likely to have experienced abuse or trauma of some kind. Now that they are pregnant or have one or more children, they are not prepared with the job, life, and relationship skills needed to provide for their family. This business was designed specifically for them.
Has this ever been done before?
Yes. Jan Martinez created a business, Christ Kitchen, in Spokane, Washington in 1998 for local women living in poverty. The ministry grew from one that simply made dry food mixes to currently operating a deli, a catering business, and a small restaurant. Jan’s book Christ Kitchen, provides helpful information, research, and insights. Jan is mentoring Every Good Gift’s Executive Director.
What do you sell?
Gift baskets, greeting cards, and small gifts.
How is it being funded?
Individuals, churches, businesses, and foundations are providing the funding for this ministry.
What is the accountability structure?
There is a Board of Directors consisting of people with expertise in computers, marketing, and women’s ministry, an accountant, two pastors, and a biblical counselor.
Are donations tax deductible?
Yes. Every Good Gift is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. This means that contributions to Every Good Gift are deductible under section 170 of the Internal Revenue Code.
Do you need anything in addition to financial support?
There are many ways to further the mission of Every Good Gift. Pray for the ministry, donate to our work, or become a volunteer. We need customers and need you to introduce others you know to our products. Prayer meetings are held each month. Use our contact form to let us know you want to receive details about prayer meetings. See the How to Give page and Our Wish List for information on donations. You can learn more about volunteering on the Getting Involved page. We need women to work alongside the young moms, developing friendships, and mentoring and discipling them. We also need volunteers to provide child care during our weekday work hours and occasionally on an evening or weekend. And we need volunteers to help with office tasks. Those with business and marketing expertise can serve on a committee in an advisory capacity.
How does working with Every Good Gift help the women?
By offering free on-site child care, part-time hours, and a work location easily accessible by public transportation, we are removing barriers to work. The supportive environment promotes the development of job, life, parenting, and relationship skills. Choosing to engage in the weekly Bible Study provides an opportunity to get to know God and what it means to be His daughter and assists in applying biblical truth to the challenges of everyday life and the suffering the women have experienced. Friendships are built, awareness of resources grows, support systems are enlarged, and information is gained. There is now work history for job applications and a reference available. This aids the women in transitioning into jobs that offer longer hours and higher pay so that they can support their families with less reliance on government assistance.
Questions About Our Products
Are all of your products handmade?
The single moms and volunteers work together to create each greeting card, gift box, and small gift. We assemble and embellish each gift basket. Some of the embellishments are also handcrafted.
Do you accept custom orders?
Yes, we do. Let us create something unique for you – greeting cards, gift boxes, gift holders, gift baskets, or favors for a wedding, shower, or event. Use our contact form to describe what you would like and when you need it. We will reply quickly to let you know if we can fulfill your request in the time period available.
How are products shipped?
All products, except for gift baskets and diaper cakes, are shipped by US Postal Service within 10 business days. If you need an order shipped more quickly, use our contact form to let us know. We will advise you in advance if we can ship sooner and if there will be an extra charge for overnight delivery. We take the utmost care to insure your order arrives safely. Please contact us right away if you receive damaged items.
Gift baskets and diaper cakes are only available in the five-county Philadelphia area. They are personally delivered rather than shipped. We make every effort to avoid a delivery charge by having volunteers deliver your basket to you. If a volunteer is not available on the delivery date requested, we will add a delivery charge of $25. Alternatively, you may pick up the basket. As you complete your order, please indicate how we may contact you to plan delivery by putting contact information on the Order Notes at checkout time. Be sure to include a daytime phone number.
How are shipping costs calculated?
The post office classifies all mailers/containers used by Every Good Gift as packages or parcels. They determine the cost of shipping a package by its weight, shape, and the zone (distance) to which it is sent. The shipping charged to you reflects the amount we are charged by the post office plus our cost to purchase the shipping supplies. Your package is sent by first class mail (13 oz. or less) or USPS Retail Ground depending upon its weight.
Do you have a local pickup option?
If you live in the Glenside, PA area and are willing to pick up your own order, we offer a “free shipping” alternative. When you first go to your shopping cart, you will see the shipping charges added to your total, but if you continue through, just before you pay, you will be presented with a “Local Pickup” option. Check the box and your shipping charges will be removed from the total. We will then contact you to arrange pickup.
What is your return policy?
If you need to return an order for any reason, please use our contact form to let us know. When items are returned in excellent condition within 30 days, the purchase price minus shipping costs will be refunded to you. If you receive a damaged item, a replacement will be mailed to you.
